WHAT I'M READING

The Lovely Bones
by Alice Sebold

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Although the subject matter was somewhat heavy (it involves rape and a gruesome murder), it wasn't necessarily alllllll dark. It had a sweetness about it.

The book is narrated from the perspective of a young teenage girl, Susie, who was murdered in the 70s. She watches from heaven and observes how her death affects her various family members.

I've read that they're making a movie of this book. I think it'll translate easily to the big screen.

Pilate's Wife
(A Novel of the Roman Empire)
by Antoinette May

I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would. It wasn't necessarily a quick and easy read (took me a few weeks to read it bit by bit) ... but it was worth it. I find the time period of this novel to be fascinating.

You have to know going into this read that Ms. May took extreme liberties with her writing (after all, it is fiction). When I got past a few (major) Biblical aspects that were embellished, it was a great story.

Claudia is the wife of Pilate. She has dreams that allow her to see parts of the future. She's only briefly referenced in the book of Matthew but this is an interesting account of what her life might have been like.

Warning: This is good storytelling but not a factual account of the life of Christ!

**********************************************************

I find it interesting that I just read two books that:
a) featured 14 year old girls as their heroines
and
b) were the first fictional offerings from both authors.

Total coincidence!
